Life is Beautiful!

On Tuesday I headed up to the mountains to enjoy my favorite time of year; fall in Colorado.  I rode on some beautiful trails and roads that wound through golden aspens beneath clear blue skies.  I was able to connect with God in a wonderful way, offering Him my life once again in surrender.    I headed back to Denver from Silverthorne around 3 in the afternoon, feeling very much alive.

Somewhere near Bakersville on I-70 my front tire began to wobble and shake uncontrollably (reason still unknown).  I couldn't regain control of the bike and slammed into the pavement on my left side.  I don't know how man times I tumbled and rolled, but had the thought to stay loose to minimize muscles and bones breaking.

As I heard tires screeching around me, I was totally convinced my body would be crushed at any moment by a multi-ton vehicle.  When I finally skidded to a stop, laying on my stomach with my face facing oncoming traffic, I immediately scrambled to the median to get out of traffic.  As I realized I could walk, I stumbled over to my beloved motorcycle that lay 20 feet in front of me right next to a rotting deer carcass.  With adrenaline pumping trough every vain in my body, I laid my shaking body down next to the bike.  Two men rushed over and informed me the ambulance was on its way and told me not to move until they got there.

Within minutes, police, mountain rescue, and paramedics surrounded me.  The asked a bunch of questions, pushed on various parts of my body as they searched for injured areas, and then strapped me to a board and loaded me in the ambulance.  I was taken to St. Anthony's hospital in Denver where I was again surrounded my doctors and nurses who searched my body for injuries.  I received multiple x-rays and CAT scans which all returned negative.  Every medical personnel that worked on me did not fail to inform me how lucky I was.

Desi was the first to arrive at the hospital, but soon people had to come in shifts as my friends maxed out visitor capacity.  I was overwhelmed by the love I felt from my community.  I will not be able to express in words how much that meant to me.

I live to tell about the wonderful goodness of God and His unfailing love.  I encourage you to take a deep breath and be reminded of the phenomenal grace of God.  For life is beautiful!
